Float House has won the British Home Awards House of the Year (under 2500 sq ft) category.
About the Project
Float House is a prototype floating home designed for confined and hard-to-reach waterways, including canals, rivers, and lakes. Collaborating with marine engineers, the home features 10 interlocking steel hulls that can be individually floated and lifted for maintenance, eliminating the need for a dry dock. Clad in weathering Accoya timber, the design harmonises with the natural surroundings, while the interior maximises space, natural light, and water views.
What Made It Shine
Float House demonstrates how thoughtful design and engineering can create sustainable, practical, and comfortable living even in the most challenging aquatic environments. We designed this floating home as a prototype for living in difficult-to-reach and confined canal, river, or lake locations. This project highlights our dedication to creating unique designs that are sustainable and practical, harmonising with their specific natural surroundings.
Why This Win Matters
Winning the British Home Awards for House of the Year is great achievement for our practice, and we are delighted to see our hard work and design ideas brought to life.
